The area where these were gathered many years ago was made a federal preserve by Bill Clinton when he was president, so you cant hunt these anymore.. below is a statement as to how they are formed. Here is the geology. The balls are actually concretions of iron and sandstone. The outside shell is hematite and sandstone in the middle. They are found in the Navaho sandstone formation in Utah and formed 190 million years ago in the jurassic time period. They formed under water and under great pressure. Limonite (iron oxide) was also in the sandstone as a gel at the time, which later bubbled up, probably due to hot volcanic gases. The limonite then changed to hematite forming a hard coating which protected the inside sandstone from eroding away when the rest of the sandstone layers eroded. Wind then naturally polished these unique geological oddities legend.
These round balls are believed to relieve stress and give freedom and love to all who rub them.

Our agate quartz geodes contain varieties of agate or quartz; smoky quartz, calcite, flourite, light amethyst, and citrine, to name a few. Some are hollow, some are solid nodules. We have found some Kentucky agate, world renowned for its beautiful black and red banding, but it is rare. Some more common agate colors here are blue, grey, white, yellow, and brown.
They are all in the 2" to 6"diameter range and are quite heavy. You will get one geode. To break the geode, use a wet masonry saw with diamond blade (for a nice, even split), drop it on rocks or concrete, or place it in old sock and hit with a hammer.
