Welcome back to Saffron’s Cauldron!
Imbolc or Brigantia is upon us and it is time for us to call upon Spring and bring her forth. Imbolc is traditionally celebrated on February 2nd and signifies the recovery of the Goddess after the birthing of the God. It is a festival of lights and fertility where we celebrate new beginnings, spiritual growth and not unlike the Rune, Othila, (also known as separation) we find ourselves sweeping away the old as we make room for the new.
Many pagans use this time of year for initiations and renewing of their dedication to the craft or initiating a new member to a Coven or perhaps creating one. It is a good time of year to start a new project or end an old one. It’s also a very good time of year for fertility magic for those looking to conceive during the Spring Sabbath.
This being the month of Lover’s you may even find yourself planning a traditional handfasting. What a perfect month for lover’s to unite and dedicate themselves to each other! After all, the word “bride” comes from the Celtic Goddess Brighid who this glorious time of year is named for.
Some important spell facts you may need for February are listed below:
· Imbolc is the 2nd (as is Groundhog day)
· Full Moon Friday, February 6th (Quickening Moon)
· There is a Friday the 13th this month (for those who keep track)
· The new moon is on Friday the 20th
· Your best spell gems this month are Garnet, Amethyst and Onyx
· Your best spell candles this month will be Pink, Brown and Red
· For incense this month I recommend Myrrh, Ylang Ylang, Lavender and Sandalwood
· Traditional foods for this festival were seeds, nuts, cakes, herbal teas,
dried root vegetables and smoked meats or fresh fish if available.
· And I would be remiss not to tell you Mardi Gras in on the 24th

Love Medicine Pouch Spell
Begin by facing east. Moving clockwise cast a circle and call upon the powers of the four directions-in order, east, south, west, north. As you turn and call the powers place a white candle as the marker for each of the directions. Place a red candle in front of you on your altar.
Light all the candles. On a piece of plain white paper write down all the qualities you want in a potential lover. Using Cardamom and Clove incense, light the incense and burn the paper over a fireproof container (abalone shell works great). Put the ashes in a red silk pouch, to be worn around your neck. Kiss the pouch frequently throughout the day, recalling the qualities you wished for and thus lending further energy to the spell.
**Note you may substitute Ylang-Ylang and Myrrh or other “Love” herbs you are more familiar with if you like.
