Brightest Blessings to you and a very Happy New Year! Welcome to the 2004 Saffron’s Cauldron!
It’s always interesting to me to see what a new year brings. Everyone finds something different in it. It is a time for making new resolutions; A time to reflect on the past year and our accomplishments; and for some a chance to start anew. I always like to look at the New Year as a blank canvas waiting to be painted and transformed into a magnificent piece of art!
This month we will talk about some of the tools we can use to paint our 2004 Canvas. Keep in mind that art is not always beautiful but it is always meaningful. Each year as we paint a new canvas to add to our portfolio of life, we learn new techniques to make the next year’s canvas even better.
The most important tool you need is your mind. Lets face it; no art can be created without one. The mind is a very powerful tool and with it many marvelous things can happen. Its up to you to fine tune it and make careful choices. As with any tool it does come with instructions. The instructions for most Pagans can be summed up with “Harm None”. Simple yet quite prophetic. You will find that if you sit and reflect on that one simple rule the mind will open up and offer up a wide array of questions and answers, which, if you hold them against that one rule, you will begin to understand how best to fine tune your mind and enhance your palette with new paints and brushes!
As powerful as the mind is, it’s sometimes easy to lose small bits of important information in its vastness. We are often so busy trying to remember the every day things that the memories of the days gone by slip silently away. Therefore, your next tool is a Journal and Pen. No matter how mundane you feel the day was always write something about your day in your journal EVERY day. Some days will have much longer entries than others and this is to be expected, but don’t let the day go by without writing something. Even if all you do is thank the Goddess/God for another day of life or to remark on the beauty of a newly sprung flower; write about it so you can reflect on it at the end of the following year.
Some other tools you can use to help guide you would be the monthly lunar phases, charts that define meanings of colors, crystals, animals and numbers; Astrological charts; different types of divination like Tarot or Runes. All of these tools are very helpful in guiding you through the vast array of choices you can make while creating your canvas this year. But of all of these tools the mind will be the most important one. So sharpen your mind and follow your intuition you never know where it can lead you.
Your experiences through the year, good or bad, are your lessons in life. So paint your lessons with pride and let their meaning ring through on your canvas. It is through your lessons you will gain new colors for your canvas and understand that sometimes painting a mud puddle is just as important as a rainbow. Artistic Inspiration Spell
Ingredients:
Pencil and Paper
A white Candle
Violet Incense
Cast a circle. Sit in he center and clear your mind of all thoughts.
Visualize a circle of white light around you. Light the white candle,
which should be immediately before you. Light the incense.
Ask (In your own words) for the guidance of Apollo or of a personal
patron God/Goddess. Sit and meditate, trying to keep your mind empty.
Write stray thoughts or artistic ideas that creep in to your mind on
the paper. When you are done, thank the God/Goddess and close the circle.
